How to read railroad crossing project documents
Check what a funding announcement or construction plan says about a crossing. These three examples show how to confirm the amount, project stage and source page.
The examples use sources checked on September 26, 2026. The linked crossing records may change in later publications.

The Idaho program table lists signals and gates at Selle Road for 2027. Its amount is 500, and the table uses thousands of dollars: 500 × $1,000 = $500,000. This is a programmed budget, not confirmation that money was obligated or spent.
What still needs confirmation?
To establish the funding commitment or the installation date, check later program updates, agreements and completion records.

The California project list identifies Cutting Boulevard and this crossing number for 2022–2023. It labels the phase “PE,” meaning preliminary engineering, but does not state an amount. An absent amount means it is not listed; it does not mean the project cost was zero.
Caltrans’s project timeline explains the phase names.
What still needs confirmation?
To establish the scope, funding or completion status, check a fuller project record and later agency updates.
The inventory record was updated on September 17, 2025.
Keep the dates and record types separate.
A road count, an inventory update, an incident report and a project document can refer to different years. A funding announcement does not update the traffic count, and an absent incident match does not establish safety.
Before using a finding, confirm the crossing number and record what the cited page establishes. The data guide explains the wider coverage and limits.
