Site updates
What we changed on Rail Crossing Atlas, newest first.
Changes to the crossing records themselves are in Weekly changes.
Updates, newest first
- : Check a home address: see the crossings near it, how many trains pass, and an estimate of where train horns can be heard at night.
- : Follow quiet zones: new and changed quiet zones now appear in the weekly changes, with their own page of quiet zone changes.
- : Easier to use on phones and tablets: larger buttons and links, and map controls that stay clear of notices.
- : Crossing pages open faster, and the address box says what it is doing while it searches.
- : New page of state laws on blocked crossings, for the states whose rules we have checked.
- : The home map loads when you first use it, so the home page opens faster.
- : Clearer text contrast and link styles on crossing pages, and Quiet zones in the menu.
- : Crossing records now update every week from the federal inventory, and records the federal inventory removed are taken out.
- : Updates to the site no longer take it offline.
- : Maps work better on phones held sideways, crossings at the same spot open one by one, and railroad maps fit the whole country.
- : Record check keeps your choices when you go back to the results, and each state view shows only the areas inside that state.
