Tan Solutions provides the atlas for research. Check source dates before relying on a record, respect access limits and keep your account secure.

Using the atlas

Tan Solutions operates Rail Crossing Atlas. These terms apply when you use the site and its tools. If you do not agree, do not use them. Contact Tan Solutions if you need help understanding a term.

Acceptable use and limits

You may browse, compare and cite records using the features provided. Do not scrape, collect records in bulk, reconstruct the atlas database or bypass sign-in, rate limits or usage budgets. Do not use multiple accounts or network addresses to evade a limit.

Automated access is allowed only through published embed and oEmbed interfaces, within their documented limits. An unpublished endpoint is not permission for automated access. Do not disrupt the service, probe other people's workspaces or share access credentials.

Usage budgets limit requests, distinct crossings and exports. Limits may differ for visitors and members and may tighten to protect the service. Follow the retry time or message shown. Full datasets, national files and per-crossing data dumps are not offered for download.

Sources and research limits

The atlas republishes records from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and other sources identified on each page. Source dates, missing values and reporting periods matter. The atlas is independent of the FRA and does not certify that a record describes current conditions.

The atlas is a research aid, not an engineering determination, and it is not legal advice. A count or comparison does not establish whether a crossing is safe. Check the original records and seek the professional assessment your task requires.

To the extent permitted by law, the data and service are provided without a warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. This does not exclude any warranty or right that the law does not allow us to exclude. See how to read the data.

Accounts and saved reviews

Use a valid email address, complete verification and protect your password and recovery codes. Member tools require sign-in. You remain responsible for content you add and links you share. Saved reviews use a separate browser workspace; membership alone does not sync them between devices.

We may restrict or end access for abuse, attempts to evade controls or material breaches of these terms. Repeated confirmed abuse can lead to a permanent account restriction. You can ask Tan Solutions to review a restriction. An access restriction does not itself delete your identity or saved work.

Responsibility and legal rights

Each party remains responsible for losses it causes as required by applicable law. To the extent the law permits, Tan Solutions is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you used the service.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Mandatory protections that apply to you remain in force.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top identifies this version. We will provide any notice or consent required by law for material changes. Contact Tan Solutions for support, account review or questions about these terms.
